The CEO and the Research Team Members of In-Out Group had their paper published in the Journal of Emerging Technologies and Innovation Research (JETIR).
As young researchers passionate about rural healthcare, the team conducted a study on the challenges of traditional birth attendance (TBAs) on safe motherhood and children in the Wa Municipality of the upper west region of Ghana.
One may ask, why conduct a study in this area? Are you encouraging the practices of TBAs? Are they not on the verge of extinction? Yes, you are right. However, there are some communities where modern healthcare is completely absent and community members are left with no choice but to fall back on TBAs. Although TBAs are on the verge of extinction, and our study is not encouraging the services of TBAs, the impetus of the study was to understand how TBAs operate and to collaborate with the modern health system to provide training to TBAs, especially in areas or communities without any health facilities, to provide the first point of healthcare to rural folks, most especially pregnant women during labour before receiving special healthcare from trained health practitioners to prevent complications and mortalities.
